Mealime App

Meal Planning & Parenting –

Before I became a mom, the task of weekly meal planning was annoying yet doable. However, once our baby arrived, the task has felt much less doable, and just plain frustrating. Our lives quickly became consumed with the task of taking care of the baby. Which left little time (or desire) to get our hands dirty in the kitchen.

Fast food, take out meals, and frozen meals brought by our families helped us survive those first few weeks with baby. But then we were back to being on our own when it came to meal planning. Our sleep deprived minds had a hard time coming up with meals, let alone healthy meals, and especially meals that weren’t too time consuming! That’s when we discovered Mealime, a meal planning app for healthy eating. (Hallelujah – our saving grace!)

My husband, Damon, was the one who stumbled across this meal planning gem. He found it while scrolling through Reddit – a social news, web content rating, and discussion website. It was featured on a thread discussing underrated apps. Eager to lessen the stress of meal planning as new parents, we downloaded the Mealime app and gave the free version a try.

Personalized & Healthy Meals –

We quickly came to realize that the Mealime app was one of those things in life where we didn’t know we needed it, but we soon came to find…we really, really did need it! There are so many features that make Mealime worthwhile in our busy lives as new parents:

First, there’s a feature that takes into account our eating preferences. It comes in the form of a checklist that has allowed us to check off any ingredients we dislike. (Like beets, no thanks!) Which in turn removes any recipes with those ingredients from your list of possible meals.

Second, the main – and most fun! – feature is the meal planner where we create our meal plans by browsing through their recipes. There are loads of high-quality photos showcasing delicious-looking meals – it almost makes choosing recipes hard! (I want this, and this, and this, and…)

Third, the most time-saving – and perhaps best – feature, is the self-populating grocery list. By self-populating, I mean once we’ve selected our three meals for the week, it compiles and organizes a grocery list with all the ingredients we need. Plus, we can add any other items (i.e. snacks, hygiene products) to the list with ease. And once we’re at the grocery store, we use the app by checking off the items as we go, until our list is empty and our shopping cart is full.

Lastly, the recipe instructions are very user-friendly. Scrolling through the numbered list makes cooking a breeze, as it allows the main dish and side dishes to be prepared and completed simultaneously. Plus, the recipes themselves generally take thirty minutes to prepare and complete, which is doable for us as we take care of the baby.

Investing in Our Health –

After using the free version of the Mealime app for two weeks, we were really happy with the quality of the meals and the time efficiency of it all. So, we decided to invest $50 for a year-long subscription to Mealime Pro. And it’s allowed us to enjoy added features such as access to exclusive recipes and the ability to view the nutritional information of each recipe.

Mealime has truly been a godsend to us as we’ve been navigating life as new parents. Just like their website says, it’s made our meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking so much easier. It really is a simple, healthy, and delicious way to cook at home!
